When you think of France, what comes to mind? Mouth-watering bread and the world’s greatest wines? The Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe? What about the beaches of Normandy, where – nearly 70 years ago – the world’s greatest land invasion took place. More Americans lost their lives on this single day, June 6, 1944, then all that were killed during combat throughout the entire Iraq war.
Today, Music Celebrations is pleased to announce that our involvement in the 70th Anniversary of D-Day will allow us to offer music ensembles the opportunity to tour, perform, and commemorate this anniversary in France as part of a special tribute tour in 2014 as part of the American Celebration of Music.
The American Celebration of Music is a special annual performance-tour program, co-sponsored by local governments, music associations, community organizations, and tourist boards around the globe. Music ensembles that are invited will be recognized in France for their participation in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Normandy (Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery) and Eastern France provide opportunities to pay musical tribute to thousands of Americans who never returned to America, having given their all for the present freedom of Europe and our country.
